About us

Women, Law and Development Initiative Africa also known as WOLDI Africa is a non-profit, non-governmental women’s rights organization that was conceived by Dr. Hauwa E. Shekarau in 2019 and formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in July 2020 to provide voice to the voiceless and access to justice to women and children, promotion of elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women and children, ensuring sustainable development and gender equality in Africa. In ensuring that the rights and liberties of women are protected and guaranteed, WOLDI Africa uses the machinery of the law to provide free legal services to indigent women, children, vulnerable persons and marginalized groups including women living with disabilities. 

WOLDI Africa has its headquarters in Abuja and works nationally and across the Africa sub-region.

To advocate for women’s rights and provide access to justice for women and children, protect their rights and liberties, and promote their development by offering free legal services in the area of strategic litigation, legal education, advocacy, research and documentation on the fundamental rights and liberties of women and children in Africa.

Women Law and Development Initiative Africa (WOLDI) handles, in the strictest confidentiality and care, all Clients/ beneficiaries Information and Documents within our knowledge and possession, generated either in the course of our engagements with the Clients/ beneficiary or thereafter made aware of by Clients/ beneficiaries in utmost good faith. The organization will neither disclose nor cause any person to disclose or hand over to any third party; save as authorized by the Client/ beneficiary Information and/or Documents belonging to our Clients/ beneficiary. We place the highest premium on Loyalty, Confidentiality and Trust.
